Construction of 450-ton/day composting plant started

On August 19, Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company officially started the construction of a composting waste treatment plant (Composting plant) with a capacity of 450 tons/day (8 hours/day).

This is an important part of the 21.7ha domestic and industrial solid waste treatment complex (Vinh Tan commune, Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai province) developed by Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company with a total investment of nearly VND 500 billion.

The composting plant covers an area of 7.1 ha, with a total investment of more than VND 220 billion, and powered by modern Belgian processing technology. All of its equipment and machinery are fully imported from Europe. The plant can thoroughly treat generated domestic waste, ensuring that the rate of inert waste for landfill is below 15%. The plant’s operation process includes 04 main phases: waste sorting – aerobic composting – maturation – compost refining.

Over 80% of the organic waste, after received and sorted, will be transferred to aerobic composting workshops for composting, the percentage of inert waste for landfill is less than 15%, and less than 5% remaining is recovered, recycled and reused. Inert waste that cannot be recycled will be buried in a sanitary landfill in accordance with legal requirements.

According to Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company, all leachate from landfills and domestic waste will be collected and treated at a 180-m3/day wastewater treatment system and reused – not discharged into the environment – to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

In addition, the Company also invested in an odor absorption system and an automated odor removal system installed at the entire composting plant, landfills, other locations and production stages that generate bad odors in order to minimize its generation in the plant operation.

According to Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company, the future launch of the composting plant will help control environmental pollution and fulfill the goal of reducing the landfill rate to less than 15% in Dong Nai province by the end of 2020 according to Resolution No. 14/NQ-TU in 2020 of the Provincial Party Committee.

In addition, the compositing plant will address local urgent needs for domestic waste collection and treatment as well as contribute to the local budget and job creation in the province. It will also enable the Company to improve the performance of the domestic and industrial solid waste treatment complex towards sustainable and eco-friendly development.

Addressing at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Vo Van Chanh – Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee shared that the amount of domestic waste generated in Dong Nai province is about 1900 tons/day, growing about 10% per year (190 tons/day). Local domestic waste has been mainly treated by landfilling. As targeted in the Resolution of the Provincial Party Committee, by the end of 2020, the waste landfill rate in Dong Nai province must be reduced to less than 15%. This rate is now close to 30%. With a capacity of 450 tons/day, the Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company’s composting plant will contribute to fulfillment of this goal.

“As a key player in environmental protection in the province, Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company has overcome many challenges, especially in marketing compost products, to adopt the best domestic waste treatment method in the province. With this project, the Company has demonstrated a new development step, with more social and environmental contributions. On behalf of the provincial leaders, I highly speak of Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company for its great contribution to the environmental protection in Dong Nai province”, said Mr. Vo Van Chanh.

Mr. Vo Van Chanh requested Sonadezi Environment Joint Stock Company to deliver this project as scheduled while conducting close monitoring for its quality and later operating the plant as intended and required. Mr. Vo Van Chanh also requested local agencies to provide their supports to this project so that it could be completed and launched in November 2020.
