One journey, plentiful values
On December 15, 1990, Bien Hoa Industrial Park Development Company (Sonadezi) was established under Decision No. 1713/QD-UBT of Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee. As the first state-owned enterprise operating in the field of investment and development of industrial parks (IZs). Sonadezi has successfully created an industrial park model, creating an important turning point for Dong Nai province when it opened to attract investment and transform into a stage of deep integration with countries in the region and the world.
From performing the initial task of maintaining and repairing Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park (formerly Bien Hoa Industrial Park was born in 1963), after 30 years since its establishment, Sonadezi and its subsidiaries have invested in 11 industrial parks in the following provinces: Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Binh Thuan, with a total area of about 4,578 ha. So far, Sonadezi has attracted 803 projects, including 583 FDI projects from 220 countries and territories with a total registered capital of more than USD 10 billion and VND 16,546 billion. Sonadezi has led in developing the urban industrial park model with outstanding projects such as: Long Thanh Urban Industrial Park (488 ha), Chau Duc Urban Industrial Park & Golf Course (2,287 ha), Giang Dien Urban Industrial Park (529 ha).
Typically, in 1996, the British Meggitt Group invested in a factory to produce components for aircraft in Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park, one of the model industrial parks of the country built by Sonadezi from the early years of its establishment. After more than 23 years of operation, Meggitt Vietnam Co., Ltd. has repeatedly expanded its production scale to meet the needs of supplying equipment and components for the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers in Europe and USA. Mr. Paul Tran, Director of Meggitt Vietnam Co., Ltd., said that if the initial investment capital was only USD 1 million, it has now increased to USD 24 million with 800 experts, officers, engineers and employees. The proud thing is that most of them are Vietnamese living in Bien Hoa, having made equipment for more than 40,000 aircraft around the world. Over 20 years of investment in Sonadezi’s industrial park, we feel very secure. Dong Nai provincial authority always accompanies businesses, promptly solves difficulties and problems, additionally, Sonadezi protects and ensures our conditions well, especially when expanding the factory. Since then, we have assessed that investment in Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park is one of the best places in the world for businesses to develop.
With the strategy of attracting high-quality investment capital, Sonadezi’s IPs have contributed to making Dong Nai a place to supply many high-tech products, such as: aircraft components, automobile components, electronic components, robots, components for modern machinery of the world. At the same time, Dong Nai always be in the top of the country in terms of investment attraction, sustainable industrial development, becoming a major industrial and service center of the southern region.
In 2005, after transforming into the model of Parent Company – Subsidiary, Sonadezi became a leader, leading and developing a system with the merger of many subsidiaries operating in many fields. Over 15 years, the Sonadezi system has developed on the basis of cohesion and together creating an ecosystem including industrial parks, residential areas, urban areas, supporting services, constructing materials products, logistics, construction, clean water supply, human resource training, etc. Thereby, the system has created a favorable investment environment and full utility services to serve development investors.
With the support, close connection and resonance in brand reputation, resources throughout the system as well as efforts to promote the individual strengths of each unit, Sonadezi has become a large, sustainably developed corporation. If in 2005, Sonadezi had a charter capital of VND 818 billion, revenue reached nearly VND 1,600 billion, by 2020, Sonadezi’s charter capital reached VND 3,765 billion, total revenue was estimated at more than VND 5,100 billion, profit was estimated at more than VND 1,165 billion, budget contribution was estimated at more than VND 610 billion, total assets were more than VND 18,800 billion.
Through effective investment and business, Sonadezi has created jobs for more than 200,000 employees, contributed significantly to import-export turnover, budget revenue, contributed to economic restructuring and created development dynamics for Dong Nai and many other provinces such as Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Lam Dong, Binh Thuan.
The development of the Sonadezi system demonstrated the right policy of reforming and restructuring of state-owned enterprises of the Government and Dong Nai province, as well as affirming the effective development strategy of Sonadezi.
Sharing about the factors that have helped Sonadezi develop over the past 30 years, Mr. Phan Dinh Tham, General Director of Sonadezi said: “Sonadezi had a favorable start when it was established in the period of the country’s renovation and opening to attract investment. At the same time, the trust, confidence, and companionship that customers and partners have given Sonadezi from the very first days of its establishment, from the first projects until now, together with the solidarity and dedication of Sonadezi team over many generations and the cohesion and common will of the subsidiaries have created a Sonadezi today.
Sonadezi currently plays a key role in the development of industrial parks, residential and urban areas, waste treatment, and clean water supply in Dong Nai province.
Developing engagement with social responsibility
Throughout its operation, promoting the role of a corporation with state capital and corporate social responsibility, Sonadezi and its subsidiaries have devoted a great deal of resources to invest in society beneficial and community-oriented projects and many practical programs. In particular, Sonadezi has spent trillions of VND to implement traffic infrastructure projects, develop resettlement housing fund, provide clean water for rural areas, invest in industrial parks in mountainous areas, including typical projects of: Xuan Loc Industrial Park, Hoa An Bridge, BOT Road 768, Nguyen Van Troi Apartment Complex, water supply projects with a total capacity of more than 450,000 m3/day.
Particularly in the field of environmental protection, Sonadezi has spent more than VND 1,700 billion to invest in wastewater and waste treatment projects. Currently, Sonadezi’s 10 industrial parks have been put into operation, all of which have centralized wastewater treatment plants with a total capacity of 44,000 m3/day and a total investment amount of about VND 507 billion. Besides, Sonadezi is also a key unit in waste treatment for localities and industrial parks in Dong Nai province, with two large-scale waste treatment projects in Vinh Cuu district and Thong Nhat district with the total investment of nearly VND 1,200 billion.
During the past 30 years, Sonadezi has always been an enterprise that actively takes care of the community with an average annual budget of about VND 10 billion for implementing charity and social programs. Sonadezi has implemented the programs such as “Thousands of Golden Hearts”, financial support for poor patients, and funding for rural roads for disadvantaged and former revolutionary areas for many years. In 2020, Sonadezi’s funding for charity and social programs was about VND 17 billion, of which the funding to support the prevention and control of Covid-19 in Dong Nai was VND 6 billion to repair damage caused by historic floods of VND 2 billion.
It can be said that, in the past 30 years, Sonadezi’s most meaningful achievement has been the spread of values and multi-dimensional contributions to the economic and social development of the locality and the country. Recognizing and praising Sonadezi’s outstanding achievements and contributions over the years, the Party, the State, and Provincial Party Committee, People’s Committee of Dong Nai province have awarded to Sonadezi noble rewards, such as: the title of Hero of Labor in the renovation period; Labor Medals of First, Second and Third Class; Outstanding Enterprise, Excellent Enterprise for many years in a row. At the same time, Sonadezi was awarded the Certificate of Top 50 Famous Brands of Vietnam in 2019, 2020; Achieved TOP 10 UPCoM enterprises with good disclosure and transparency in 2019 – 2020.
