On December 15, 2020, Sonadezi – the first state-owned enterprise operating in the field of business and infrastructure development of industrial parks (IPs) celebrated 30 years of establishment, marking a journey of pioneering and developing together with the locality and the country.

Thirty years ago, Bien Hoa Industrial Park Development Company (Sonadezi) was established under Decision No. 1713/QD-UBT of Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee. The establishment of Sonadezi is associated with a historical mission, marking an important turning point of Dong Nai when it opened to attract investment and transformed itself into the renovation phase. Notably, Sonadezi’s pioneering spirit did not stop at the milestone of establishing the first industrial park, but continued constantly for the past 30 years and made its mark on many aspects.

Pioneering and leading in industrial park development
Starting with the task of maintaining and repairing Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park (Bien Hoa Industrial Park was established by Société nationale Pour Le Desvelopment Des Zone Industrielles in 1963), in 1993, Sonadezi invested and developed Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park – the Company’s first industrial park and also the first industrial park in Dong Nai province in the opening phase to attract investment. After that, Sonadezi continuously invested in many other industrial parks and became a pioneer enterprise, opening the trend of international cooperation in the field of industrial park investment when a joint venture with Amata Group (Thailand) deployed Amata Industrial Park in 1994.

10 years after deploying the first industrial park, in 2003, Sonadezi continued to affirm its pioneering thinking when being the first enterprise in Dong Nai province to invest in the industrial-urban model with outstanding projects such as Long Thanh Urban Industrial Park (488 ha), Chau Duc Urban Industrial Park & Golf Course (2,287 ha), Giang Dien Urban Industrial Park (529 ha).

Sonadezi and its subsidiaries have been developing and managing 11 industrial parks in Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Binh Thuan covering a total area of about 4,578 ha. Sonadezi’s industrial parks have accommodated 803 projects (including 583 FDI projects and 220 DDI projects) with a total registered capital of more than USD 10 billion and VND 16,546 billion respectively.

Sonadezi’s 9 industrial parks in Dong Nai alone have attracted about 35% of FDI projects and 30% of DDI projects in the province, and about 30% of the total FDI capital invested in Dong Nai’s industrial parks. including high-tech projects of Fujitsu, Bosch, Sanyo, Shell, Atus, Hans Vina, 3M, Sony, Kenda, Meggitt, Mabuchi… with a total investment of about USD 1.5 billion. Such investments are turning Dong Nai into a supplier of high-tech products such as aircraft components, auto components, electronic components, robots and spare parts of modern machinery used globally.

Sonadezi’s FDI partners are from 22 countries and territories, among which, Japanese clients are its top partners with 101 projects and USD 1.8 billion investment. From the success in investment and business in industrial parks, Sonadezi has created more than 200,000 direct jobs and millions of indirect jobs for employees.

2020 was also a milestone marking 15 years of Sonadezi operating under the model of Parent Company – Subsidiary with the merger of subsidiaries. Looking back at the past 15 years, it can be seen that the negative impacts from the world economic crisis, policy changes, and adverse developments in the market have created many difficulties and challenges, however, the Sonadezi system has affirmed its internal strength and solid courage.

The support, close connection and resonance in brand reputation, resources throughout the system as well as efforts to promote the individual strengths of each unit have made Sonadezi a large, sustainably developed corporation, contributing in value resonance, thereby, contributing to the success in attracting investment and socio-economic development of Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces.

In 2005, Sonadezi had a charter capital of VND 818 billion, revenue reached nearly VND 1,600 billion, by 2020, Sonadezi’s charter capital reached VND 3,765 billion, total revenue was estimated at more than VND 5,100 billion, profit was estimated at more than VND 1,165 billion, budget contribution was estimated at more than VND 610 billion, total assets were more than VND 18,800 billion.

With 4 groups of activities including industrial and civil real estate, construction and trading of building materials, support services, water supply, Sonadezi is currently a key unit in the province on the development of IPs, urban and resident areas, waste water treatment, port, water supply and contribute to training high-quality human resources.

Sonadezi and its subsidiaries have invested in about 60 projects with a total investment of about VND 29,000 billion and nearly USD 35 million. In particular, Sonadezi spends a great deal of resources investing in projects that contribute to solving urgent problems in the field of transport infrastructure, waste treatment, development of resettlement housing fund, and clean water supply, investment in industrial parks in mountainous areas. Typical projects are: Xuan Loc Industrial Park, Hoa An Bridge, BOT Road 768, Nguyen Van Troi Apartment Complex, water supply projects with a total capacity of more than 450,000 m3/day.

Particularly in the field of environmental protection, Sonadezi is also a pioneer in investing in concentrated wastewater treatment plants in industrial parks, 02 large-scale waste treatment projects, namely Quang Trung Waste Treatment Plant (130 ha) in Thong Nhat district and the domestic and industrial solid waste treatment area on a scale of 21.7 ha in Vinh Cuu district with a total investment of more than VND 1,700 billion.

Also in the past 30 years, Sonadezi and its subsidiaries have always accompanied the local charity and social programs, and continuously deployed the Corporation’s programs with strong experience and annual implementation cost of about VND 10 billion. Prominently, it is the program “Thousands of golden hearts” providing financial support for poor patients, sponsoring the construction of rural roads for areas with difficulties and meritorious services to the revolution. In 2020, funding for the implementation of programs Sonadezi’s social charity program reached about VND 17 billion, of which the funding to support the prevention of Covid-19 pandemic in Dong Nai was more than VND 6 billion, the funding to support the people in the Central region flooded was VND 2 billion.

With outstanding achievements, over the past thirty years, Sonadezi has been conferred the title of Hero of Labor in the Innovation Period; Labor Medals, First, Second and Third Class; awarded the Certificate of Top 50 Famous Brands of Vietnam in 2019, 2020; achieved the Top 10 UPCoM enterprises with the best information disclosure and transparency in 2019 – 2020.
