Water pipes have been completed to the airport boundary

The clean water, electricity, and traffic connections must be completed first to serve the construction process and the airport operation afterward. Therefore, the water supply line project has been chosen as a priority project by Dong Nai Water Joint Stock Company to be completed in 2024.

Le Thanh Trung, the Head of the Project Management Department of Dong Nai Water Joint Stock Company, said the water supply line project for the Long Thanh International Airport was prepared many years ago. Until June 2022, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam – JSC issued a document approving the pipeline route, connection location and water flow for Long Thanh Airport phase 1. Next, the company carried out the procedures and received approval from the Ministry of Transport to implement the project within the protection structure of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway Project; Long Thanh District agreed to the route and location of the HDPE OD560 water supply pipe in Long An commune.

In early May 2024, the water supply line construction project officially commenced. This is a group C project, level II technical infrastructure project, with a length of more than 5.6km and a total investment of nearly VND 46 billion. Currently, the project has completed about 90% of the volume, and the water supply pipeline has reached the airport boundary.

Representative of the project construction contractor, TNG Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, said that if it weren’t for the intersection of routes T1 and T2 with Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway, the project would have been completed last weekend. However, due to objective factors of site and rainy weather, the project was slower than expected. As a result, the contractor has proposed and Dong Nai Water Joint Stock Company is considering an appropriate extension time.

Nguyen Duy Cuong, Officer of the Project Management Board of Dong Nai Water Supply Joint Stock Company, added that during the implementation of the above project, local authorities and transport infrastructure project investors have coordinated and supported the company a lot. This is an important factor in ensuring project progress and completing the water supply project, contributing to putting Long Thanh Airport into operation as planned in 2026.

Continuedly develop water supply networks and sources

Once completed, the above project will provide Long Thanh Airport with 10 thousand m3 of water/day in phase 1. After that, depending on the capacity of the project, Dong Nai Water Supply Joint Stock Company will gradually increase the capacity up to 36 thousand m3/day. Raw water source is taken from Dong Nai river, processed at Thien Tan Water Plant, through D800 cast iron pipe system. Dong Nai Water Supply Joint Stock Company will build water supply infrastructure to the airport boundary, within the airport and Vietnam Airport Corporation – JSC will implement according to the design.

Currently, there is about 40m left across the frontage road of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway Project, which requires road construction before installing water pipes, therefore, the project completion progress depends on the construction progress of the traffic project. Moreover, Dong Nai Water Supply Joint Stock Company has sent a document to Project Management Board 85 to provide support the construction of this road section to complete the Water Supply Pipeline Project for Long Thanh Airport.

Dong Nai Water Supply Joint Stock Company currently supplies tap water for daily life and production to 10/11 districts and cities of the province (except Thong Nhat district). In order to secure the water source and quality for the province’s socio-economic development; increase the rate of tap water usage by the Dong Nai Province Clean Water Supply Project for the period 2021-2025, in the coming period, the company will invest in the pipeline network and increase the capacity of water treatment plant.

Regarding water sources, water sources, water plants will be renovated and built to increase capacity from more than 448 thousand to more than 867 thousand m3/day. In particular, the renovation of the Thien Tan water plant and Nhon Trach water plant will increase the water capacity from 300 thousand to 600 thousand cubic meters/day, raise Bien Hoa water plant’s capacity from 36 thousand to 48 thousand cubic meters/day, Hoa An water plant’s capacity from 15 thousand to 30 thousand cubic meters/day, etc. Additionally, a new plant and water supply system in Cam My district with a capacity of 12 thousand cubic meters/day, Gia Mang Lake Water Plant (Xuan Loc district) with a capacity of 10 thousand cubic meters/day, Suoi Tre Lake surface water treatment plant capacity of more than 8 thousand cubic meter/day, etc. will be constructed.

Regarding the pipeline network, transmission and distribution pipelines will continue to be expanded according to the water supply area development plan. According to the plan, for the main pipelines along the main road, the company will fully invest, but for the branch pipelines, the company will partially support investment and also call for socialized capital.

The company proposes that the province approve the agreement document to implement water supply services in the province; consider supporting businesses to invest in investment items and agriculture and rural areas structure projects according to Decree 57/2018/ND-CP dated April 17, 2018, of the Government and Decision 35/2021/QD-UBND dated August 16, 2021, of the Provincial People’s Committee. Departments, Boards, Divisions and localities propagate and mobilize people to switch to using tap water.
