In witness of the domestic waste treatment procedures of Quang Trung Waste Treatment Area on November 15, the government and people of Thong Nhat district contributed many suggestions for the project.
This is also an activity regularly maintained by the authorities and people of Thong Nhat district since the Quang Trung Waste Treatment Zone, of which Sonadezi Service Joint Stock Company (SDV) is the investor, is a large-scale environmental protection project located in the district. It is receiving and treating about 70% of the household waste volume of Dong Nai province.

At the working session, visitors highly appreciated the feedback-collecting activities of Quang Trung Waste Treatment Zone. This initiative allows local people to directly witness the project’s waste treatment process and make recommendations on related issues.
Pastor Nguyen Ngoc Quoc Huy – representative of Ninh Phat Parish said: “An actual visit helps us see that the employees of the Treatment Area work really hard and sacrifice, try and contribute a lot. Regarding the odor spreading to the surrounding area, there are days when there is no smell, but there are still days when it’s there. It could be due to the weather or the wind. The company needs to try to fix this problem to protect everyone’s health.”

Speaking at the meeting, the representative of the local government remarked that SDV is taking on great social responsibility which is treating household waste for many localities in Dong Nai province and making great efforts to improve and raise the efficiency of waste treatment and environmental protection.
Ms. Vu Thi Yen – Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Thong Nhat district said: “The local authorities regularly monitors the operation of Quang Trung Waste Treatment Zone. We do that at many times to accurately assess and promptly give suggestions. Every day, the amount of garbage transported to Quang Trung Waste Treatment Zone is very large, about 1,200 tons, so there are times when it is bad odor is inevitable. The Company has been very receptive to feedback from local people and supervisors, and have so far taken very quick actions. Over the past 13 years, we have noticed that the odor generated by the project has gradually decreased despite the increase in the amount of waste received and treated. In the time to come, the Company needs to continue to ensure proper waste treatment, limit odors, and to do research and invest in new technologies .

Talking to SDV, local people in Quang Trung commune, Xuan Thien commune suggested that it is necessary to strengthen odor-treating measures to limit the impacts on the surrounding environment. Visitors also suggested the Company take better care of its employees. One of the proposals was to buy health insurance for seasonal workers to motivate the most important frontliners who are directly exposed to garbage on a daily basis.
Appreciating the feedback and suggestions from the authorities and people of Thong Nhat district, the management of SDV and the Board of Directors of Quang Trung wastewater treatment zone also shared a lot of information about the project’s activities, especially the efforts to minimize odors during the receipt and treatment of household waste.

Specifically, in order to minimize the release of odors to the environment and surrounding residential areas, the Company has implemented many solutions such as covering the tops of landfill cells with HDPE waterproofing membrane, collecting gas using the gas collection system, using biological products to kill flies and deodorize. In addition, doors have been installed for the entire composting workshop and microbial products have been used accelerate decomposition and limit the cycle of odor generation.
Mrs. Tran Thi Thuy – Director of Quang Trung Wastewater Treatment Zone added: “Over the past time, SDV has also implemented tree planting programs on the entire area of the treatment zone. We pay special attention to planting tall, canopy trees in areas with odors. At the same time, the Company is constantly researching solutions to limit the impacts on local people. In 2019, the Company invested and commissioned the suction and deodorization system of the composting station with a total investment capital of VND 5 billion VND for phase 1.
Local authorities and people observe wastewater after treatment
Answering visitors’ questions about the treatment of leachate, SDV said: All leachate generated at the composting station is completely reused to irrigate the composting beds, create moisture, and help the process of organic decomposition happen faster. Leachate generated in sanitarily suitable landfills will be collected to the Leachate Treatment Station to be treated in accordance with Norm 40:2011/BTNMT and reused within the Treatment Zone instead of being discharged into the environment.
Sharing about the plan in the time to come, the SDV management said that the company is studying to convert technology to incineration and trying to increase the rate of waste recycling and reuse.
In addition to opinions on domestic waste treatment activities, representatives of the government, parishes and local people also recognized and appreciated SDV’s contributions to local charity and social security activities.
