In order to celebrate the 109th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8, 1910 – March 8, 2019), Sonadezi Corporation’s Trade Union held a Cooking Competition with the participation of 16 teams from Corporation and subsidiaries.
The contest took place on the morning of March 7, 2019 at Du Long 1 Restaurant – Buu Long Tourism Complex. The contest welcomed the presence of Ms. Nguyen Viet Hoai – Member of the Standing Committee, Chairwoman of Dong Nai Trade Union Inspection Committee, Ms. Do Thi Thu Hang – Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Phan Dinh Tham – CEO with other board members, representatives of the Party Committee and Trade Union as well as employees of Sonadezi Corporation and its subsidiaries.
According to the rules, each team would cook 2 different sets in the form of a family meal, each of which had 5 dishes (4 main dishes and 1 dessert) for 10 people. The expenses for each team were VND 2 million paid by the Trade Union of Sonadezi Corporation. Each team had 5 members (including at least 2 men). Besides cooking, each team was required to prepare a menu (the price of each dish was included) and a presentation on their sets. The organizers would score on a maximum scale of 100 points with 5 criteria: flavour, processing time, plating, hygiene and presentation.
The competition began at 8:30 am sharp. Teams eagerly went to the cooking area to prepare their dishes, creating a joyful and bustling atmosphere. Using the main ingredients chosen by the organizers, each team would come up with their own menu and use their distinct cooking methods to create numerous dishes of different flavors and eye-catching colors. In particular, there were many chefs that were men. Their creative, skillful and professional kitchen skills received many compliments from women.
After 2 hours and 30 minutes, all teams presented their sets on time and cleaned the cooking area. 16 sets with 80 beautifully plated dishes demonstrated the attention to detail and meticulousness of all teams. They also gave pretty impressive presentations that contained many interesting topics, for example, the value of family meals, the roles of women, food safety, etc. The dedication and uniqueness of each team really “made it difficult” for the judges to come to the conclusion.
The Trade Union of Sonadezi Long Binh JSC won the first prize; the grassroots trade union of Dong Nai Water Supply JSC won the second prize, the grassroots trade union of Dong Nai Construction Materials JSC won the third prize and the remaining 13 teams won the Consolation Prize.
Although this was the first cooking competition held to celebrate March 8th by Sonadezi Corporation’s Trade Union, it left a lasting impression thanks to the active participation of the teams. According to Sonadesi Corporation’s Trade Union, the Cooking Competition would become an annual activity in the hope of strengthening the relationship between subsidiaries, improving the emotional well-being of employees and enhancing the productivity of each subsidiary in particular and the Corporation in general.
