One afternoon in the spring of 1991, leaders of Dong Nai province and Sonadezi had their first meeting with (Taiwanese) Vedan Company at a guest house managed by the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, in Quyet Thang Ward, Bien Hoa City.
Vedan’s mission included Mr. Duong Dau Hung – General Director, Mr. Vuong Trieu Thu – Deputy General Director, Mr. Diep Phuong Dien – Assistant to the General Director and Mr. Chu Luong Kien – Advisor and Interpreter. From Dong Nai province, there were leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, PPC Chairman Huynh Van Binh and all Sonadezi managers.
The meeting went well. The Board of Management of Vedan Company confirmed that it had found the right destination for its investment in Vietnam. With the support and commitment of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee, plus a confident and knowledgeable partner like Director Nguyen Van Thuyen, Vedan was completely persuaded. Vedan decided to invest in Dong Nai and chose Sonadezi as a partner to help them implement its project. Before this, Vedan had organized scoping missions for nearly 2 years in Southern provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Vung Tau, but could not determined an investment location.
A few days after the first working session, the second meeting between Sonadezi and Vedan at the Continental Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City ended successful with a contract worth USD 50,000 signed between Mr. Duong Dau Hung and Mr. Nguyen Van Thuyen. Sonadezi undertook that, within 6 months, it would help Vedan secure an investment location and successfully obtain an investment license for Vedan’s first project in Vietnam. Up to now, Vedan’s project has been operating in Dong Nai for nearly 30 years
