On July 25, doctors of Dong Nai General Hospital cooperated with the doctors from Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City successfully performed open-heart surgery on pediatric patient P.H.T.T. (9 years old, living in Quarter 2, Thong Nhat Ward, Bien Hoa City). This was the second open-heart surgery for children performed at Dong Nai General Hospital. To date, Dong Nai General Hospital is the only hospital in the province performing open-heart surgery for children.
Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Ph.D, Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, Dong Nai General Hospital, said that the patient was found with a ventricular septal defect from early age (the most common form of congenital heart defect, a case where the heart has a hole in the septum between the two ventricles causing the blood on both sides of the ventricles to mix, thus less oxygen to the body. Large defects can cause heart failure because the heart fail to pump enough blood as it should).
Accordingly, the doctors patched the ventricular septal defect for the patient with pericardium. After 4 hours of surgery, the patient was transferred to anesthesiology & recovery room.
Reportedly, all costs of the surgery for pediatric patients P.H.T.T. was sponsored by Sonadezi Corporation.
