On February 27, Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (PDN) started its construction of a 30,000DWT wharf (B5) at Go Dau Port – Zone B with an investment of VND 111 billion.

PDN is expected to complete the construction of Wharf B5 by the end of 2021 for official launch in Q1/2022. Having a design capacity of 1.2 million tons/year, its main bridge is 207.18m long, designed to connect the existing Wharf B4 (30,000DWT) and Wharf B1 (6,500DWT). This is the second 30,000DWT wharf to be developed at Go Dau Port after Wharf B4, which was inaugurated in September 2015.

Addressing at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai – BOD Chairman of Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company said: “ The investment in the Wharf B5 aims to improve cargo handling capacity of Go Dau Port which is now 5.7 million tons/year. It will enhance the port’s general cargo handling, given that regional and international fleet modernization trends are growing, ensuring that it can accommodate large vessels in order to lower charter rates and consolidation service fees for logistics service operators”.

He added that, after the Wharf B5 is officially launched, the Go Dau Port’s throughput will reach 6 to 6.5 million tons annually from 2022 onwards. At the same time, the project will significantly reduce transportation time and logistics costs for customers.

In deed, for enterprises in industrial parks in Dong Nai, South Central Coast and South Central Highlands, their transport distance to Go Dau Port, compared with others in Phu My, will be shortened by nearly 15km while cutting transportation costs by 5-10%. This option will reduce losses in cargo transportation, increase the volume of cargo handled and shorten the truck turnaround time, thus promptly providing production materials and gradually reducing manufacturing inventory.

The Wharf B5 is one of PDN’s key projects in its strategic efforts to expand and modernize infrastructure system in order to improve its competitiveness and position as a trade gateway, linking the port with industrial parks in Dong Nai, Southeast region and Central Highlands, in accordance with the detailed master plan for the seaport group No. 5 as approved by the Government.

At the ceremony, Mr. Phan Dinh Tham – Sonadezi’s CEO extended congratulations to Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (a Sonadezi’s subsidiary). Mr Tham noted: “The performance of Dong Nai Port has, in recent years, contributed to Sonadezi’s revenue and profit growth and added value to one of Sonadezi’s main operations, which is infrastructure development of industrial parks. In 2020 alone, Go Dau Port’s throughput reached 5.4 million tons, accounting for more than 80% of general cargo handled by the Company and generating about VND 316 billion in revenue, sharing nearly 40% in the revenue structure of Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company. The revenue of cargo loading and unloading services alone is VND 190 billion. The investment in the Wharf B5 for improved handling, loading and unloading of goods, along with existing strengths and resources, will upscale Dong Nai Port’s competitive positioning in the region.

“On behalf of Sonadezi’s Board of Directors and Board of Management, I do hope that Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company as the developer, contractors, consultants, supervisors and relevant government agencies will closely work with each other to ensure occupational safety, quality and progress of construction so that the Wharf B5 can be put into operation in early 2022. This will in turn contribute to the development of Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company in the years to come while also generating its and Sonadezi’s service-based revenues”, said Mr. Phan Dinh Tham.

Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company currently plays a key role in handling and circulating Dong Nai’s and its neighbors’ import and export goods of province, with higher growth rates in recent years. According to PDN’s 2020 financial statements, despite impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, PDN recorded positive growth by generating VND 803,467 billion in revenue, or 7.13% higher than annually budgeted and 7.34% higher compared with 2019, VND 159,462 billion in profit after tax, or 10.74% higher than annually targeted and 16.76% higher compared with 2019.

Its total converted output reached 13.5 million tons, including 6.57 million tons of general cargo, or 0.8% higher year-on-year, and 824.5 thousand TEU of container throughput, or 5% higher year-on-year.

As reported, PDN will direct all resources to complete the Wharf B5 as earliest as possible to leverage its uses and address the needs of goods circulation while still offering time and cost savings. This is in line with the Government’s goal of reducing logistics costs to 16-20% of GDP by 2025. It also contributes to the implementation of the Resolution of the 11th Dong Nai Provincial Party Congress for the term 2020 – 2025 on development of Dong Nai into a regional logistics hub whose logistics services will grow about 20-25% annually and contribute 10-15% of its GRDP.
